Summary of Health Insurance (Cigna)

Toku offers two medical plan options through Cigna, allowing employees to choose coverage that best fits their healthcare needs.

Eligibility and Enrollment

  • Plan Eligibility
    • Full-time employees working 30+ hours per week
    • Eligible dependents include:
      • Legal spouse or qualified domestic partner
      • Dependent children up to age 26 (or older if disabled)
    • Effective dates: Benefits have two waiting periods depending on the carrier.
      • Medical (Cigna): Coverage begins the first of the month following your date of hire. For example, a January 1st or January 3rd hire date would both result in a February 1st effective date.
      • Unum: Coverage begins the first of the month on or following your date of hire. This means that if you are hired on the first of the month, these benefits begin that same day.
  • Enrollment Process
    • You will receive an email link from the Employee Navigator to enroll or waive in benefit coverage once completing your Toku profile onboarding.
      • Enrolled and need to submit a qualified life event? Log into your employee navigator portal and select β€˜Make Benefit Changes’ to begin the process.

Medical Premiums & Employer Contributions (Semi-Monthly)

Toku covers 100% of employee-only premiums and 50% of dependent premiums for both medical plans. The tables below show the total premium, employer contribution, and your payroll deduction by coverage tier.

A Medical FSA allows you to set aside pre-tax dollars to pay for eligible healthcare expenses not fully covered by insurance.

A Dependent Care FSA helps you pay for eligible dependent care expenses so you (and your spouse, if applicable) can work.

Health Savings Account (HSA)

An HSA is a tax-advantaged savings account available to employees enrolled in the Cigna HDHP (High-Deductible Health Plan). Funds can be used for eligible medical expenses and roll over year to year - you own the account and it follows you even if employment changes.

Eligibility

To open and contribute to an HSA, you must be:

  • Enrolled in the Cigna HDHP (HSA-compatible plan)
  • Not enrolled in Medicare or any other non-HDHP health plan
  • Not claimed as a dependent on someone else's tax return
  • Not enrolled in a Medical FSA or HRA (unless it is limited to dental/vision expenses only) Note: If your spouse has a Medical FSA that can cover your expenses, you may not be eligible for an HSA. A dental/vision-only FSA is the exception.

Contribution Limits & Tax Benefits

  • Contribution limits are set annually by the IRS and vary by coverage type (individual vs. family)

  • Contributions can be made until the tax filing deadline of the following year (typically April 15)

HSA Key Rules

  • Funds never expire and roll over year to year
  • You own the account - it stays with you even if you leave Toku or change health plans
  • If you leave the HDHP, you can no longer contribute, but existing funds remain yours to use
  • Funds used for non-qualified expenses are subject to income tax + a 20% penalty (if under age 65)
