👋 Welcome to Toku. Toku is your Employer of Record (EOR) in Canada. We employ you through the appropriate local Toku entity and manage the compliance, HR, payroll, and benefits administration connected to your employment. Your day-to-day work, goals, and role direction continue to come from the organization you support.
A quick note on Canada: employment rules are set federally and by each province, and entitlements such as minimum wage, leave, and notice vary by where you works. The figures below reflect federal standards; Toku applies the correct provincial rules for each hire.
Your employment at a glance
| Item | What it means for you |
|---|---|
| Currency | Canadian Dollar (CAD) |
| Payroll cycle | Semi-monthly. Toku runs two payrolls per month in Canada. |
| Standard working week | 40 hours |
| Probation period | 3 months |
| Annual leave | 2 weeks, rising to 3 weeks after 5 years and 4 weeks after 10 years |
📄 Your signed employment agreement governs your individual terms, including pay, working hours, probation, notice, and any custom arrangements. Mandatory local law also applies. If this guide and your agreement appear different, contact Toku before relying on the summary.
Pay schedule and payroll changes
You are normally paid twice per month, on the 15th and the last day of the month. If a payday falls on a weekend or public holiday, payment is generally processed on the prior business day. Payroll changes are normally due at least 7 days before payday, but the exact cutoff can vary by country and organization. Check the Toku: 2026 and 2027 Payroll Calendar and Deadlines or contact Toku before relying on a specific date.
You will receive a payslip for each payroll cycle showing your gross pay, required deductions, and net pay. Keep your bank, tax, and personal information current in Toku, and notify us promptly if anything changes.
Your employment terms and probation
- Toku issues a compliant local employment agreement for every hire, in English or French (employees in Quebec have the right to a French-language contract).
- Indefinite-term, fixed-term, and part-time arrangements are all recognized; indefinite-term is the standard.
- Probation is 3 months under Toku's employment agreement. Note that some statutory protections, such as unjust dismissal remedies and statutory severance, apply once an employee reaches 12 months of continuous service.
Working hours and overtime
Your normal working hours are stated in your signed employment agreement and may vary by role, schedule, or applicable collective agreement. Toku does not expect routine overtime. Do not work overtime or additional hours unless your manager has approved them in advance. Any overtime or additional-hours treatment follows your signed agreement and mandatory local law.
Leave entitlements
Federal entitlements are below; provincial rules vary, and Toku applies the correct ones for each employee's location.
| Leave | Entitlement | Who pays |
|---|---|---|
| Vacation | 2 weeks (years 1-5), 3 weeks (year 6+), 4 weeks (year 10+), paid at 4%/6%/8% of gross wages | Employer |
| Paid medical leave | 10 days per year at full pay | Employer |
| Unpaid medical leave | Up to 27 weeks; EI sickness benefits may apply | Government (EI) |

Maternity and parental leave pay comes from Employment Insurance, rather than direct employer pay, and returning employees must be reinstated to the same or a comparable position.
